During the Summer, Owensboro is home to the Owensboro Oilers, a baseball team in the collegiate wood bat KIT League. The Oilers were the KIT League's 2008 playoff champions and the 2006 KIT League season champions. The team is named for the baseball minor league farm team 'Owensboro Oilers' which existed in the 1940s.

In February, Owensboro hosts indoor football games for the Owensboro Rage. The Rage, who re-located from Evansville, Indiana, plays in the Continental Indoor Football League.

Owensboro is home to sports arenas and facilities ( The Owensboro Sportscenter, a 5,000-seat sports arena, and the Owensboro Softball Complex host sporting events throughout the year where teens can cheer on their favorite teams and players. The Edge Ice Center ( is the only municipal ice arena in Kentucky offering public skating as well as lessons.

Parks and Recreation - Owensboro, with an active parks and recreation department (, is home to 25 parks. Youth sports leagues, teams, clubs and instructional clinics are available through this department including football, cheerleading, figure-skating, soccer, tennis and hockey. Chautauqua Park (, a public area covering 31 acres, is home to an open picnic area, basketball courts and baseball diamonds. The park also houses an Olympic-sized pool and offers youth swim lessons and public swim times during the summer. Dugan Best Recreation Center ( is a year-round facility with activities for youth of all ages. Amenities at this center include a gym, stage, game room, computers and meeting rooms. Our gravity racing track hosts the Owensboro Lions Club Soap Box Derby and other gravity races each year at Owensboro’s Ben Hawes Park. Ben Hawes Park also boasts the Rudy Mine Mountain Bike Trails which include single and double tracks for all skill levels of bikers, hikers and runners.

Owensboro Sportscenter

Located only 1.6 miles from our Hampton Inn by Hilton Owensboro, the Owensboro Sportscenter is a 5,500 seat multi-purpose arena in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Sportscenter hosts concerts, sporting events, trade shows, conventions, meetings, and receptions. The Sportscenter is the home of the 8-time Division II national champion Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers basketball team.  It is the home to the former ABA team, the Kentucky Bisons.

  • Jack C Fisher Park - Only 4 miles West of our hotel, the 33 acre community park is located off Carter Road. Within the park is the Owensboro Softball Complex, a first-class complex in the state of Kentucky.
  • Panther Creek Park - Located 9 miles SW of our hotel, the Panther Creek Park features 6 baseball/softball diamonds which accommodate softball and baseball tournaments, Daviess County Church League and the Owensboro/Daviess County Babe Ruth league.
  • Yellow Creek Park - This 152.5-acre park is located 5.5 miles NE of our hotel and has a softball complex, basketball courts and tennis courts.
  • Waymond Morris Park - Only 6.2 miles S of our hotel, this Owensboro park has a state-of-the-art four-field football complex. Waymond Morris Park at 5200 Todd Bridge Road, just south of Southtown Boulevard, allows Owensboro to host numerous large youth football events each year.
  • Thompson-Berry Park - Thompson-Berry Soccer Complex is a 38.5 acre community park located only 2.4 miles W of our hotel, at Raven Drive off US 60 West featuring 11 soccer fields. The complex is home to the Owensboro United Soccer Club and Academy.
  • Horse Fork Creek Soccer Complex - Horse Fork Creek Soccer Complex is the largest soccer complex in Western Kentucky and it is only 4.2 miles SE of our hotel. Local league play, seasonal camps and tournaments use the park throughout the year.
  • Legion Park/Spray Park - Legion Park/Spray Park features one lighted basketball court and one tennis court. Located 2.9 miles S of our Owensboro Hampton Inn hotel.

Mountain Bike, Walking/Hiking/Running Trails and Archery

  • Ben Hawes Park - This park is located 5.3 miles NW of our hotel. Enjoy the 300 acres; mountain bike and walking trails; and archery range. It is also home to the Lions Club Soap Box Derby track. The Mountain Biking Trails, opened in 2012, offer over six miles of trails for hikers, runners, and mountain bikers. The single and double track trails were designed and built according to IMBA guidelines and can be enjoyed by all skill levels of bikers, hikers, and runners.
  • Yellow Creek Park - This 152.5-acre park is located 5.5 miles NE from our hotel and offers amazing nature trails.
  • Horse Fork Creek Park - The park is adjacent to the Greenbelt, 4.2 miles SE of our hotel, a multi-use trail that will one day encompass the City of Owensboro.

Family Fishing

Yellow Creek and Panther Creek Parks are regularly stocked through the FINS "Fish in the Neighborhood" program. Through a grant from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, the state stocks both county parks with catfish in the summer and trout in the winter.  The Jack C. Fischer Park is stocked with trout in the spring and fall, but Waymond Morris Park on Todd Bridge Road is the only city park that is stocked through the FINS program.

  • Ben Hawes Park - Located 5.3 miles NW from our hotel. Enjoy 300 acres of nature, a 9-hole par 3 golf course, and an 18-hole regulation golf course.
  • Hillcrest Golf Course - About 4.4 miles S of our hotel, 9-hole municipal golf course. 
  • Panther Creek Park - About 9 miles SW from our hotel, 18-hole public golf course.
  • The Summit - With bentgrass greens, five lakes and multiple teeing areas, the course can play from 5,500 yards up to 6,835 yards.
  • Yellow Creek Park - 5.5 miles NE from our hotel, this 152.5-acre park has a disc-golf course.
  • Golfland USA - 4.4 miles from our Owensboro hotel featuring miniature golf, driving range, batting cages, go-carts, pro shop. 

Skate Park

Travis Aubrey Skate Park is a 14,000 square foot facility designed by Spohn Ranch for Owensboro’s skating and BMX community.

Combest Pool

Combest Pool has an Olympic size pool located at 1530 McJohnson Avenue. Trained certified lifguards are on duty at all times. In addition to public swimming, youth and adult swim lesson are offered throughout the season.

The Edge Ice

The Edge Ice Center is Owensboro’s municipal ice arena. Open year-round, The Edge offers ice skating, skate rental, a full concession and pro shop, and is also home to the Owensboro Youth Hockey Association and the Owensboro Figure Skating Club. The Edge has over 42,000 square feet, with an ice surface of 17,000 square feet.

The Next Level

The Next Level is an indoor sports/recreational facility with 32,000 square feet of indoor space that can be used for softball, baseball, football, soccer, inline hockey, volleyball, cheerleading, and so much more.

The Ozone Laser Tag

Neon lights create an eerie atmosphere at The Ozone Laser Tag. The 4,000-square-foot arena hides warriors firing laser weapons back and forth, striking opponents in an all-out spree. In addition to high-energy laser battles, the center provides arcade games and snacks to help fighters rejuvenate, and handicap-accessible play helps get everyone involved in the fun.

Owensboro Country Club

Owensboro Country Club is located within the city of Owensboro on Byers Avenue, and was founded in 1919. The Club owns approximately 117 acres of land and its facilities include a clubhouse, a swimming and diving pool, an eighteen hole golf course, four clay and two hard tennis courts, miscellaneous support and service buildings. The Club is a private, non-profit corporation owned by its Shareholder Members and offers a full variety of recreational services and dining facilities for the enjoyment of its members, their families, and guests.
